Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. I don't know what to say about this movie. It's depressing. I don't mean it's a sad movie like My Sister's Keeper; it more like it doesn't make you happy. It a prime example of a Greek tragedy gone modern. Watching this movie makes you lose faith in humanity. It's about brothers who scheme to rob their family jewelry store to solve their financial problems when one mistake changes everything. The family dynamics are crafted beautifully and you see and feel how everything just crumble apart. The story progression jumps around time and perspective intertwining everyone's involvement which helps develop everyone motives and character progression. It builds tension and suspense making you want to find out what happens even though you know nothing is going to be alright. Nobody is safe in this movie, everyone has their demons and human nature is exposed in its purest form. What will you do and how far will you go to solve the biggest problems in your life? How will you deal with the repercussions of those actions? How good are people when they are pushed to the brink of their sanity? All of these question are brought to the table and illustrated. Be prepared to feel like shit after this movie cause that's all people are...pieces of shit.
